First up, Textures
Textures have been growing in popularity for the last year or so, but now there are so many ways you can bring texture and depth to your wedding cake.
You can mimic stone with cracked fondant, or a heavily crackled effect using royal icing. Stencils in the same colour as the background are a great way to add a more subtle texture – try it in black on black, or white on white or even a bold colour.
Say goodbye to plain cake tiers, and take a look at these. Which is your favourite?
Say “Goodbye” to traditional flowers!
Another great way to break the mould with ‘traditional’ looks is to have something other than fresh flowers adorn your wedding cake . Dried flowers are still really popular and are great for the boho, festival look.
But now there are so many new edible mediums to create flowers (alongside the traditional sugar flowers) that it’s becoming increasingly hard to choose between!
Wafer paper can be used to create very realistic, ‘earthy’ flowers that are not clean and pristine like a sugar flower, but natural in their imperfections. It can also be used to create whimisical abstract flowers that add an element of playfulness to your cake.
Rice paper can bring a pop of colour for bold and fantastical flowers that catch the light in stunning ways.
Or why not have no flowers at all?!
Alternative styles are rice paper sails, isomalt (edible sugar) creations, wafer paper discs or geometric designs, a giant bow! Who says there has to be flowers?
